Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I make a change after my order has been placed?
Sure! Send us an email and we'll help you out.
  • When will my order ship?
Ready to Ship items will ship within 24 hours unless it is a weekend or holiday.

Our custom order turnaround time may change due to our order load. It is currently at 8 weeks. We send out an email the week your order is on the table and ready to be made so you know when to look out for your tracking number. Once you receive the tracking number it won't be long before it is completed and dropped to the shipping carrier. We do our best to keep in contact with you if something changes. This information will also be in your order confirmation email.
  • Why does it take so long to make my order? Is it really going to take 8 weeks?
Rob is the only craftsman working on orders and at any point there are between 80 and 125 pending custom orders ahead of yours in the order queue. Each one is crafted by hand and takes time. We'll do our best to keep in contact and let you know if things are moving faster or slower than usual and are always available if you have questions.
  • Why is the shade of my wallet different than what is pictured?
Since leather is a natural product, there can be subtle variations between hides.  This includes the color or shade (which can also be affected by your monitor), natural scarring, texture, and even thickness by small variations. We are very picky about what makes the cut for your order so we remove any parts of a hide that are unsuitable for use.
  • What's the difference between the Premium and Badalassi Carlo leathers besides the cost?
For the customer, the biggest difference is that the Premium leathers are more firm and waxy, usually with a nice distressed pull-up which can give it that interesting crackle look as it breaks in. The burnishing on this leather is still clean and smooth but tends to have less of a shine compared to the Badalassi Carlo options. The premium leathers are made and processed in America so that also helps keep their cost down. The Badalassi Carlo leathers are  made, processed, and Imported from Italy. This leather can look extremely diverse even on the same hide. Some parts are clean and smooth while others parts will have a lot of natural character. This leather is capable of taking on an absolutely beautiful shine after burnishing the edges and shows just how high quality this leather is. From its durable but soft touch, unique textures, and classy look, this leather is worth the little extra for it.
  • Why don't you offer Initial Stamping/Monogram/putting my name on the wallet?
There are a few reasons:  It was one of the last steps and done by hand without a guide. This means letters were hand placed and if a mistake was made from slipping it would mean remaking the entire piece. Right now, due to time constraints we can't afford that kind of accidental mistake. We also had specific guidelines for how it could be done and where it could be placed. This was ignored often and we would be asked for placement and names that we could not accomplish. It may change in the future but at the moment we are not offering this as an option.

Hi I'm Rob, I am the owner and sole craftsman at Speakeasy Leather. I'm a published author, musician, outdoors man, designer, teacher, and minimalist. For 10 years I taught and trained in the Bushcraft community all over the United States as the Owner of CanteenShop.com. I designed knives, tools, cooking and camping equipment, and much more for the outdoor industry. Most are still in production and sold through other businesses to this day.
When  I left the outdoor industry at the end of 2017, I wanted to get back to making things with my own two hands. I take a lot of pride in what I make and design my work to be unique, functional, durable, and have an old-school feel that belongs in your pockets.
When you purchase a wallet, knife slip, coin slip, or belt keeper, it's usually something that I made specifically for you. That makes it more than a sale, it makes it personal. Thank you for supporting Speakeasy Leathjer and giving me the opportunity and privilege to do something that I love while making a modest living at it.  We hope you enjoy the site.
